Founder & Lead Developer
Matt Schaff is the Founder and Lead Developer of IdealCampus.org. Wholly powerless to control his compulsion to build social ventures and movements, after the November 2016 election he proposed a website that could present a unified voice of social strength in the Penn and wider communities to the Penn Graduate and Professional Student Assembly.
Prior to arriving at Penn in Fall of 2016 to pursue a Ph.D. in neuroscience, Matt worked as the lead developer of Science News for Students at the Society for Science and the Public, and before that served for two years as the Manager of Science Outreach and Education at the Foundation for Biomedical Research. Matt is a self-taught web developer who was inspired to learn coding to build Sci-Inspire, Inc., a 501(c)3 nonprofit social network for science outreach piloting in New York and Washington, D.C. that connects K-12 educators with university science college students to boost science attitudes and aptitudes in American youth.
After being awarded in 2012 the Barry Goldwater Scholarship for his research into the neurobiology of nicotine, Matt graduated in 2013 from the University of Pittsburgh with degrees in Neuroscience and Economics. At Pitt, Matt led the Copy Desk and Opinions Desk at The Pitt News and cut his teeth in science journalism, covering everything from neutrinos as a means of understanding the universe to the value of mouse models to immunology research.
In his spare time, Matt enjoys hiking with his dog, experimenting in the kitchen, teaching literacy to recent immigrants, and building web applications for his friends.
