Join us to discuss thought-provoking articles on racism and anti-racist work. No prior knowledge on these topics is required. White folks, who may have thought less about these issues, are especially encouraged to attend. All participants must come committed to doing anti-racist work, including challenging how racism has affected your own thoughts and behaviors. The goal is to gain a clearer understanding of the effects of racism on society at all levels and how to combat its virulent hold over ourselves and our culture.
We will be discussing the article “The Difference Between Cultural Exchange and Cultural Appropriation” by Jarune Uwujaren (https://everydayfeminism.com/2013/09/cultural-exchange-and-cultural-appropriation/). Please read ahead of time, and join us for dinner and conversation!
This event will also provide a space for white folks to practice productively addressing racially problematic statements from other white folks. This event is intended to be an educational space for white folks who wish to take on a more anti-racist stance. All are welcome, but because individuals may vary in their paths to becoming and ally, some comments may be triggering for students of color.
